Happy Sunday, all! It’s been a rough month. My life has been a nonstop chaos circus with a shit show on the side that has left me with little time to write. And I wanted to write, needed the distraction from my nightmare reality, but I couldn’t muster up the energy. No matter how hard I tried. Luckily, I was able to remedy my writer’s drought over the weekend. I made some progress on Nick and Karina’s WIP (Fated) and worked on Book One of the Cove Med Series (aka Magic & Medicine). I planned on talking about Fated some more, but the last scene I revised was overflowing with spoilers, so I’m gonna give you all a sneak peek at my Cove Med trilogy instead.

Cove Med (series title) is a paranormal workplace romance that takes place in the mystical town of Luna Cove, MA. Each book will feature a different couple and a different storyline. Stavros and Alaina will be first, followed by Darek and Ewelina, and Alex and Agnieszka will finish off the trilogy, unless I decide to add more books. But for now, it’s just the three stories, which I’m gonna share some fun, spoiler-free facts about.

Seven Facts About Cove Med

 Cove Medical Center

Cove Medical Center is one of the best supernatural hospitals in the world, and it’s where the entire cast of my trilogy works. It’s a top-notch health facility that specializes in trauma and critical care. The entire team is as talented as they are dedicated. And in a city that is ruled by royalty, it should be no surprise that the hospital only employs the best of the best.

Stavros, Alaina, Darek, Alex, and Agnieszka all work in the Emergency Department. Ewelina is an OB/GYN who spends most of her time in the hospital’s birthing center. But if she’s not busy, she’ll help out in the ER if they need an extra set of hands.

Supernaturals Only. No Humans Allowed.

Cove Med Center does not treat humans, nor does any other supernatural clinic or hospital. And supernatural beings avoid the human health care system as well. The supernatural community lives in secret, and it’s too risky for them to be treated by humans, and vice-versa. It doesn’t mean that it never happens, but it’s a rare occurrence.

The Emergency Department

Cove Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center with a 52-bed Emergency Department, which houses seven triage bays, and four trauma/resuscitation bays. Cove Med Center handles all the supernatural emergencies in Luna Cove and the surrounding mystical communities. And just like most human ERs, the supernatural ER can get swamped with patients, especially at night.

The Night Shift

Nights are when all the action explodes. Demons, monsters, spirits, and other rogue creatures all come out to play after the sun sets, wreaking havoc and leaving destruction and death in their wake. That’s when Cove Med’s elite trauma team comes alive, working as a cohesively chaotic unit to save as many lives as they can.

Now, every night isn’t pure chaos. Some nights are slower than others, and the staff might only see a couple of traumas per shift. But that doesn’t mean the team doesn’t have other patients to take care of. Cove Med’s emergency department is like any ER, it’s completely unpredictable and you never know what kind of patient will roll through those double doors. Thankfully, the staff all have each other to lean on.

Friendships & Bonds

If you’ve ever worked in a hospital, then you know how close you can become with some of your co-workers. You spend so much time with them that they evolve into a second family of sorts, and some of them eventually become your closest friends. And the trauma team at Cove Med is no exception. They’re a tightknit group. They’re in the trenches together—it’s a shared experience—and no one else outside of the field understands the level of stress and pressure they deal with on a daily basis.

They support each other, pulling each other through some of the worst traumas. They help each other cope when the loss of a patient hits especially hard. And they know how to lift each other up. Sometimes they’ll unwind by grabbing breakfast and cocktails after a tough shift. And other times, they’ll meet up on their nights off—whether it’s hitting up the bar, hosting a barbecue, celebrating a birthday, or some other milestone—this group of friends knows how to put the fun in dysfunctional.

Six Degrees of Separation

Not only is the Cove Med crew tight with each other, but they’re also close with some of the Fated cast. Stavros is related to Nick, Marissa, and Aria. They’re all cousins. Stavros and Nick are particularly close-knit as the two of them used to fight side-by-side before Stavros changed careers. The Santori siblings all adore Stavros’s daughter and help him take care of her whenever he needs. But Stavros isn’t the only one with ties to the Luna Coven.

Alaina lived in Chicago at the same time as Karina did. The two of them met at a bar, and they instantly clicked, becoming good friends. They kept in touch after Karina moved to Luna Cove and Kari helped Alaina get the job at Cove Med Center.

Ewelina met Holly while volunteering at the local women’s shelter years ago. And while they’re not the best of friends—partly because of their conflicting schedules—they are still close and meet up for coffee or drinks whenever they can.

Superstitions

🩺 Never say it’s quiet or slow. Saying those words aloud, or hell, even thinking them to yourself will invoke a major trauma or inundate the ER with patients.

🩺 A full moon is guaranteed to bring about all sorts of magical mayhem—including spells and curses that have gone very, very wrong—bringing about an influx of witchy patients.

🩺 The witching hour is also known as the trauma hour. Supernatural activity is known to rev up at that time. Fun fact: the ER is usually at its busiest between 12:00 a.m. –  4:00 a.m.

🩺 Alaina is a black cloud and a magnet for chaos. Her presence alone seems to be a recipe for disaster, drawing in some of the worst traumas and flooding the ER with bizarre cases.

🩺 Exam 19 is rumored to be cursed, except it’s not really a rumor.

🩺 Stavros has a lucky stethoscope. Don’t ask him about it, he’ll just deny it and claim he doesn’t believe in luck.

Update

The summer blog schedule has been posted. You can find it on the Announcements page. Raichel and “Drew” will be hosting a takeover this summer, which will follow the same format as Nick and Karina’s Takeover. And yes, Nick and Karina will be playing twenty-one questions too. Nick and Kari’s Takeover will likely be posted in late September or early October.

As of now, Ryan and Ash’s Halloween side short is still on track. I’ve also got a holiday side short planned for Nick, which I’ve already started outlining and writing. Naturally, Nick’s story will be posted around the holiday season later this year.

That’s all I have for you today. I hope you all enjoyed this sneak peek, and I’ll be sharing more of these tidbits in future blogs. As always, stay safe and stay healthy. Until next time.

Cheers,

 Amelia
